A Certified Specialist in Sports Dietetics (CSSD) can help athletes at all levels in optimizing nutrition to promote optimal health while also achieving success in your active lifestyle or competitive sport performance.
Minimum requirements for specialist certification are established and approved by the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR). In order to be eligible to become a CSSD candidates must meet the following requirements:
· Current Registered Dietitian (RD) status by the CDR
· Maintenance of the RD status, for a minimum of two years from the original examination date
· Initial Certification: Documentation of 2,000 hours of sports dietetics practice experience as an RD within the past five years
· Recertification: Documentation of 1,500 hours of sports dietetics practice experience as an RD within the past five years

Jennifer Doane, our CSSD, has talked about nutrition for sports performance to various teams at all levels of sport. While nutrition planning for sport can be very individual, providing sound nutrition education can be a great team building experience. General fueling topics, avoiding fueling pitfalls and addressing proper hydration are a few of the topics areas which can be addressed with your team. Jennifer has helped to meet the needs of athletes on college, high school, middle school, and travel teams, as well as providing services through collegiate sports medicine departments. Team sessions are offered both in person and virtually.
