Winter Wellness

By: Angela Moreno

Here at @advantagenutritionandwellness we understand that wellness is more than just nutrition. If we didn’t, we would just be Advantage Nutrition & ____. Doesn’t quite have the same ring to it.
With winter officially upon us (East-coasters anyway), we want to stress the importance of wellness, inside and out.

Here are a few winter well tips to help you feel your best this season!

Catch Some Rays

Natural sunlight is important not just as a source of Vitamin D, but also to our internal clocks. Shorter days and less sunlight can have a major effect on our sleep cycle. To break the “hibernation cycle”, make it a point to get outside every day.

Get Those ZZZ’s

Another result of shorter days, our bodies just naturally need more sleep. Unfortunately, when your body is sleep deprived, it is more susceptible to illness. Ward off sickness by aiming for 7-9 hours of sleep each night.

Hydrate

Drinking water isn’t just an important practice during the hot summer months, it is as important to hydrate in winter, too. Flush impurities, help boost your immune system, and keep your skin from drying. It is recommended to drink eight glasses of water each day.

Don’t Forget to Exercise

Exercise is beneficial, both physically and mentally. From illness prevention to warding off infection, and, it supports healthy mood and energy levels. Help kick the winter doldrums and fit in exercise at least 20-30 minutes per day.

Stress Less

Stress can affect our physical health by creating a less efficient immune response. With illness more prevalent in winter, it’s crucial to keep your immune system in shape to fight off infection.

So, ditch the added stressors and instead, plan get togethers with friends, family, and loved ones. Bring on the merry!
